Re: Traveling with macrobiotic

Neon,

Your dream sounds lovely. But maybe it could be gotten to in stages. Rather than jump into several months, maybe you can start smaller and work up to it??

If you're ever in the States during the summer months, in California there is a summer camp which is done all outside - people sleep in tents, food is cooked over a fire outside - I've never gone and I suppose it's quite different being with lots of people, but it could be a good booster shot to begin with, and you might meet others who would be interested. (you can see info on it in the Macrobiotics Today magazines - Bruce, you reading this, want to give the URL addresses that apply?)

otoh, I think it wise that you wanted to start locally - I feel strongly that having more of our energies on a local level makes more ecological sense than running around the world looking for what might be in our own back yards (wise lesson from Wizard of Oz). In practicality, I often think the mb way of eating is indeed the way most "primitive" peoples ate, what was local, mainly grain based - you don't have to keep it the way you do in the city, but simplify it to fit wherever you're traveling.

As far as self-sustaining, the study of Permaculture has a lot to say on that - you might look into it.

And as far as Nature, well, maybe for now try to find it even in the city - might be more challenging, but it too can be a stepping stone for the bigger dream.

I truly do love your dream - when I was younger I had similar dreams - now I'm not quite ready to run off and leave my family, but do try to get closer to Nature whenever I can.
