I would follow the general rules that anyone would follow going to the gym, eat enough daily protien to support the growth of new muscles, and eat some carbs of some kind (A bowl of whole grains will do) before going to work out. Just give yourself about half an hour to digest so you don't cramp up. (You know, same rule as swimming after eating.)
