I don't have much time at the moment but I did a quick search on miso making kits and have not found any and if you think about it, maybe there is not very much demand for those kits, right now.

So a place to start is The Book of Miso: Savory, High ... - By William Shurtleff and Akiko Aoyagi and then the chapter Making Miso at Home and In Communities (click on "Contents" and then "More").

Oh, by the way, Wild Fermentation: The Flavor, Nutrition, and Craft of Live-Culture Foods by Sandor Ellix Katz, does have a good little section on miso making, including making Red and Sweet misos.
