Macro Mommy is on a distinguished road
Smile Excited about new lifestyle!

I am new to macrobiotics, and I am so excited about the lifestyle and finding this forum.

I live with my husband and two children. I am hoping to get the whole family on the macrobiotic diet, but my husband is only somewhat receptive. My children will eat macrobiotically, but I am slowly transitioning them.

I am transitioning myself as well, as I have been slowly transitioning myself toward a macrobiotic diet without knowing it for some time.

I started wanting to modify my diet after my first son was born (now 2 years old) because it was really important to me that he eat well, and I knew that if I ate bad, so would he.

I started by eating real food instead of junk - that was the first step! Then I decided to cut out meat, but I still ate eggs and dairy. Then I read Disease Proof Your Child: Feeding Kids Right by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, which talks about eating in a way that supports your immune system. I decided to give up eggs and all dairy at that point. Then I found The Macrobiotic Way by Michio Kushi, and realized that the macrobiotic diet is what I have been looking for all along!

So for now, we are just adding more macrobiotic foods to our diet, but not eliminating all non-macrobiotic foods. Based on my previous diet, that means mostly fruits and vegetables that are not on the diet. I plan to gradually incorporate more macrobiotic foods and wean out the ones that aren't macro.

My older son loves grains, so that is a good start. He doesn't eat vegetables so well, but the other day he spontaneously wanted broccoli, so I think we are slowly making progress. He still eats a small dish of fat free organic yogurt once a day or every other day, and occasionally eats a small bit of cheese, so I am working to gradually eliminate those items from his diet as well.

So anyway, that's my story! I am so excited to make online friends who share my passion for healthy living, as most of the people in my life have a difficult time understanding what I am doing and why.
