Yes, I think refined carbos can be a problem. They are addicting when combined with fat and sugar. Dr. Barnard claims that there are 4 major addictions: meat, dairy, chocolate and sugar. When food are eaten whole, lik in Macrobiotics, there is no need to worry about carb "addictions". I know nobody who is addicted to brown rice.
