Julian. There are a number of symptoms a hypoglycemic may have and each is
directly related to the type of food that are eaten. GENERALLY, the functional
hypoglycemic will have mild symptoms of weakness, nervousness, dizziness, headache,
memory loss, spaced-out feelings, depression, insomnia, night sweats, and excessive
hunger. More severe forms of hypoglycemia can include symptoms of double vision,
rapid/strong heartbeat, lack of urinary control, and convulsions.
If you are bingeing on sugar once a week this is way too much for a macrobiotic follower
and your condition will not improve. All sugars, white flour products, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, vinegar, potatoes, eggplants and tomatoes, drugs, chemical
preservatives, raw fruit, fruit juice, saccharine, dairy products and common
table salt must be eliminated. Corn may also be too high in sugars so avoid this
whenever possible. Whole oats, mixed with brown rice is very calming to the system
and is a slow burning complex carbohydrate. If the blood has too much sugar (glucose)
the pancreas tries to neutralize this by producing an abundance of insulin which converts
glucose to glycogen. Then fatigue comes.
Whole grains, a variety of land and sea veggies, miso soup, pressed salads, Jerusalem
Artichokes (sun chokes) and occassional carrot-vegetable (especially raw parsley)drink with a pinch of Spirulina seaweed would be helpful. You should also attempt to eat smaller amounts of food but eat more frequently – up to six times daily, and external ginger compress to adrenals/kidney area will also be helpful. Chew foods very slowly and as long as possible before swallowing. Green tea, twig tea, licorice root tea, bancha,
and mineral water, blueberry leaf, and grain coffee should be your standard beverages –
vary them frequently. A little citrus (lemon or orange slice) in tea or water can be taken
after doing exercises – especially your Akido practice. This will help to remove lactic
acid build up in muscles that also causes fatigue. Green plum extract in tea works
the same way.
I hope this helps.
In peace, Roy
