The Ginger Compress is a wet fomentation using a container of hot water with towels.
The Ginger Compress can be used for a number of pain relief symptoms. It is usually recommended for kidneys and back pain. But for our purpose here, the focus is on its use for the abdomen to assist in the release of stagnation build-up in the intestines.
Need to copy info in box above this on cybermacro.com
Information about the Ginger Compress for the purpose of supporting the intestines
can be found on www.alchemycalpages.com.
I have added to what Dr. Bursell presents along with my input from my own experience.
You might find it useful to log onto his site and read what he wrote to compare with
what I am presenting, if you would like...Dorcas Gerace, AZ
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE
GINGER COMPRESS

If we established beyond reasonable doubt we do have chronic
intestinal stagnation, then we may want to enquire as to what we can do
to aid our intestines in healing themselves. From what has already been
written it should be fairly clear we first need to begin by changing our
way of eating to one based on eating cooked whole grains and
vegetables
.
However, on the physical level, changing our way of eating
is not enough. It is often assumed, or, it appears to be the assumption
in macrobiotic literature, that we need but change our daily staple
foods from meat, eggs, dairy food, refined, chemicalized foods etc. to
whole grains and vegetables and our intestinal function will take care of
itself. And, in many instances, when people begin eating cooked whole
grains and vegetables according to whole food principles, one of the
first changes noticed is a considerable, often dramatic improvement in
bowel movement.

However, the consumption of these foods on a regular basis as staple
foods does not allow for making any real inroads on breaking down the
chronic intestinal stagnation, the toxic mucus build-up in the
intestinal walls. The chronic intestinal stagnation has already been
building up over the entire life of the individual's living in the modern culture
eating the modern diet, and as the years go by the
chronic intestinal stagnation becomes extraordinarily impacted and
'locked-in' the intestinal walls. Thus, we must do something in addition
to changing our way of eating if we wish to get rid of the mucus
stagnation in the walls of our intestines.

The Ginger Compress.

Items required: All the items listed below are to be used for ginger compresses
only.
1. One gallon of water in an enamel container with a lid, similar to the
canning pots (tap water is fine). (No cooking in this pot, Dorcas).

2. 1/4 cup finely grated-by hand-fresh unpeeled Ginger Root
(non-organic is fine) wrapped in some layers cheesecloth, or other natural fibre
cloth, to make a bag of grated ginger. (You can tie off the cheesecloth with a
twist tie). (Dorcas)
Sometimes the ginger is not as fresh nor juicy, so I use more. My water is
the color of urine so I can
judge that way that I have enough ginger. You can buy your ginger
at the Asian markets because the price
is reasonable. In Phoenix, I buy at the Ranch Market at the
Chinese Cultural Center for almost half the price
in the supermarkets. I use about 2 gallons of water to account for
both compress sessions, Dorcas)

3. 2- three feet long by 1 foot wide cotton terry cloth towels.
( I use handtowels. If they are old and worn,
I sew 2 of them together to make one towel. Dorcas). These will be rinsed
in clear water only after the compress applications and dried in the
dryer preferably because it will make them softer and easier to handle.
I have 4 towels available). (Dorcas)

4. 1 cotton bath towel. (Use a very heavy tufted towel. A cotton
blanket folded to fit your torso is workable also. I use hydrocollator pads).
(OK to use the blanket and heavy tufted bath towel for everyday purposes, (Dorcas)

5. I pair of thick rubber gloves. (Opt. I do not use gloves because I
keep the ends out of the water.) (Dorcas)
6. 2 old white tee shirts to be used only for ginger compress and rinsed
after you do the session. Rinse with clear water only
and dry in the dryer, Dorcas).
Preliminaries.
Before proceeding, take the two terry cloth towels and, singly, fold each
one in three-folds such that they cover the area on your abdomen
which goes from the sternum of the rib cage to the pelvic bone, and
from one hip bone to the other. Once you have done this, sew each one
along the loose edges so they are prevented from falling open once you
start doing the treatment. (The way I do mine is described above). (Dorcas)

Also, the treatment has to be done on an empty stomach, either an
hour before you eat or two hours after you eat. It can be done at any
time of day. However, a practical tip is to do the first treatment just
before you go to bed, and once you have done it, leave all the materials
where they are. First thing in the morning, reheat the ginger water pot,
making sure you DO NOT actually boil the water, and you can do the
treatment again. If you used up too much water with the first
treatment, you can add a little more water and grate a little more fresh ginger.
Open your cheesecloth or bag you began with and add it.
Squeeze the juice into the water and add the bag along into the reheated
water. Thus, if you do it this way, you can do
two treatments using the same ginger water. ( If you have some water left over
after the second treatment, you can reheat it to use for a footbath in the
evening ) (Dorcas). This one batch of ginger water is good for a 24 hour period
only.

Another point is that if you use a gallon container, once you have
followed the instructions to prepare the ginger water, you can ensure the
ginger water remains hot by obtaining a hot plate you can plug into an
electrical outlet near the place you choose to do the treatment. (The pot I use that
holds 2 gallons fits easily on my hot plate...experiment, Dorcas).
(Do not turn the heat so that the water boils, only hot enough to keep the water
hot. Dorcas).

Instructions:
Prepare the area you have selected to do your compress. If
you can use a low cot, or your couch, so you won't have to reach too far down to dip
your towels into the pot, you will find it will be more comfortable. ( It is best
to do this lying down. Dorcas) Arrange how you want your hot plate to set
during the session on the floor on a protective pad so you protect your floor
from any spills and heat from the hot plate.
That way, for safety, your pot will be solidly on the hot plate on the
floor with less danger of tipping it over.

I use an old blanket on top of my low bed, then a beach towel or a sheet
so I don't have to lie directly on the blanket. I also use a short bed pad under my
towel to keep my bed dry in case I don't wring the towels as dry as I would
have liked them to be. I have my pillow and a
blanket to keep my legs warm. Dorcas)
I get "dressed" for the process. I have white cotton tee shirts which are very
brown now from all my
ginger compresses, which I use exclusively for ginger compresses. I use
the tee shirts as my layer of protection so that the hot towel
compresses will not burn me and for other reasons which I mention
further into these instructions. My tee's are long enough to cover my
genitals, so it is the only cover I use...no ginger compress panties!
(Dorcas)

Place the container of water on the stove and bring the water to a boil.
Meanwhile, grate the unpeeled ginger root using a fine tooth grater until you
have approximately a 1/4 cup or more depending
the juiciness or dryness of the ginger; (Dorcas) The easiest way for
me is to grate the ginger into a bowl. Then rinse off the grater with a
little water. If you are using cheesecloth, use several
layers and place the squares of about 8 x 8" or more if you would on a strainer
and pour
the contents into it. The excess liquid will be caught in the bowl. Bring the four
corners of the cloth together to enclose the grated ginger, twirl it to make a
neck and wrap a rubber band or twist tie around the neck to hold it together.
If using a cotton bag similar to the kind you can buy in the health food stores,
or have made your own, pour the contents into the bag and tie it up. We definitely
want to avoid the grated ginger from floating in your compress water.
Squeeze the cloth or bag so that the juice goes into you have been using
to catch the excess liquid.

When the water has boiled, turn off the heat, let the movement stop. Add the
water and juice from the straining and then add the bolus into the pot too.
Lightly rinse the bowl with some of the hot water from the pot.

Cover your pot of ginger water
and move it to your location you are going to use, placing it on your
low heat setting on your hot plate. Your water willl have had enough time
to steep while doing this step.

Then place one of the towels into the water
with the ends hanging over the pot. If you use Kaare's method,
the towels go into the pot and you will wring them out using the
rubber gloves. Because I do not get my towel ends hot, I simply
take the ends and wring out the water using the ends for leverage without
use of the gloves.
Back to Kaare:
Immerse the two folded and sewn cloth towels into the pot
of hot ginger water and let them soak for a minute or two, with the lid
on the container. Then, with the rubber gloves on, remove the lid of the pot,
pick up one of the ginger towels in the pot (if you are
lying on the floor you will need to sit up to do this), wring out the
excess liquid back into the ginger water in the pot, then replace the
lid to keep the heat in.
Taking the wrung out ginger towel, open it up so it is flat (it will
remain folded if you have sewn the loose edges together), lie down
if you have had to sit up to do the preceding, and raise and lower
the ginger towel over the skin of the abdomen, close to but not
actually touching the skin to begin with , until you can take it as
hot as you can stand it leaving it directly on the skin. After you
have placed the hot ginger towel on the tee shirt cover with
your heavy tufted bath towel or blanket that has been lying on
your lap to keep the heat in.

After two to four minutes the hot ginger towel will start to cool down.
Then, lift the dry bath towel covering the wet ginger towel, remove the
ginger towel, leaving the dry bath towel covering the abdomen to keep
yourself warm.

Remove the lid from the ginger water container, replace the cooled down one
with the one warming in the pot and repeat the first process. Always careful to be
mindful of the amount of heat the compress is holding. The tee shirt layer can only
protect you to a certain degree. Alternate
the two towels for half-an-hour. This constitutes one treatment.

Dorcas:
I use the hand towel size towels with their original length.
If they are new, I wash them to
wash the sizing out. If they do have much tuft (I have used all my old worn ones),
I make one towel out of 2 worn
ones. I like 2 lightly tufted towels sewn together because, they hold
more water and more heat, even though I give them a good wring. If I
have heavy tufted towels, I don't sew 2 of them together. See which you
might like once you get on a roll... I work with 2 towels also...one on
me and one ready to apply. I do not use the rubber gloves. I leave the
ends of towels dry as possible and dip one towel at a time into the water
as far as it will go in and I can still have "handles". I take the ends of the
towel and wring out the water. I keep the towel twisted as wrung
so it will hold in the heat until I am ready to apply it on top of my tee shirt...
cautiously, as Kaare describes above. I do this cautiously, but
as fast as possible so I don't lose much of the heat.
Because the longer my dipped towel is left uncovered, the more heat
I lose.
Then I cover with my heavy tufted bath towel (or blanket or hydrocollator
pad as is) which is folded
in thirds so I have several layers to hold in the heat. If the compress
is too hot when applied to my abdomen, I just lift the towel where there is a
hot spot and run my hand under the tee shirt and lift up the shirt to allow some
air between me and my shirt with the hot cloth on it. I
keep doing so until it is comfortable. Back goes the covering to keep the heat
in for the new few minutes until I am ready to change to a hotter cloth.
While I am waiting for the cool down of the towel I have on me, I dip the next one
into the water, mindful about my "handles" and then I am ready for the next one.
My compress fits me from the top of my clavicle to the top of my pubic
bone...so not only is the abdomen getting help, but also the belt and
chest organs...

The Trusty Tee Shirt:
I have 3 reasons for using the Tee-shirt...first, for protection from
the excessive heat of the first few towels. Second, because I plan to
use that water one more time for another compress, and possibly for a
foot bath depending on how much is left over, or if I want to add more
ginger and water to make sure I have a foot bath since I have all the
gear set up. And third, if I put the towel direct on my skin, the
bacteria from my skin is now active in the ginger water causing it to
spoil for when I want to use it again the next morning or with the 24
hour time period, resuming the next night using the same water.
If you don't do the compress within the 24 hour period, don't keep the
water for another day, make a fresh batch. You can see that doing the
compresses back to back, you save on set up time and money for the
ginger.

By the time I am ready to do my second treatment, if all conditions are
right for it, ie a room that is too warm, the bacteria will spoil and
the water will smell while being held until my next use.
You will have to make a new batch for your second ginger compress. This is
discouraging and enough rational to abandon the process, for that time at
least, because you are already tired. So that is why I use the tee shirt.

As the weather warms, place your water in a cool room or outside on the
porch, because even with using the tee's, the ginger water can spoil in warm
weather.

If you decide to schedule your treatments so that you do one in the
evening of the first application and in 24 hours do the second one, you
will definitely want to see that the water is kept cool. If you opt for
the evening for the first application and the next a. m. for the second,
there is less chance the water from the first application will spoil with
warm weather
conditions.
You will apply your towels about 10 times total for the 2 working towels, for 30 minutes.

Back to Kaare: Recommended timing for the procedures:

I recommend the compress is done 64 times for men, 32 for women, two
times a week for women and four times a week for men. Two for women
because they are doing 2 hip baths to add up to the total of 64 in the
16-20 time frame; and for men 4x a week so that they total their 64 times:
This is counted as one round of compresses, and may not, and is generally not,
enough to complete the job. If you determine your intestines need more
work, I suggest you wait four to six weeks and then do another round
of 64 compresses. And you may need to do two or three more rounds
after that! The reason it takes so many compresses is due to the fact
the chronic intestinal stagnation has developed over many, many years,
have such a thing as
chronic intestinal stagnation, the longer it has been going on. And the
longer it has been going on, the more tenaciously hardened and
impacted it is in our intestinal walls, right into the sacculations of
the colon, therefore the more ginger
compresses we will have to do, more consistently and perseveringly, in
order for the compresses to have their desired effect. (to have the degree of
unloading of the waste that can happen, it may mean 2-3 rounds a year for
about 4 years (Dorcas).

I also recommend that even if we are satisfied our intestines are back in
shape again, it is a good idea to do one half-round, or 32, of the
compresses (and hip baths for the women)
regularly every year. ( Dorcas: I would like to suggest that by doing a
half round (16 ginger compresses and 16 hip baths) in the Spring and
Fall, you will assist your body's eliminative processes from
excesses of the previous season's to prepare you for the Winter and
Spring seasons. This time frame is about follow up treatments after you
do the 64 routines about 3/4 times in a row. That is to say 16 weeks
on and 6 weeks off.
We are talking about 2 different routine schedules for 2 different
purposes. One for the intent of cleansing and the other for maintenance
thereafter).

Children:
With regard to children, it is perhaps better to
wait until they are seven years old before doing the ginger compresses.
Men and Hip Baths:
Because men don't have the channel women do to allow
for loosened toxins to pass out, they do 4 ginger compresses a week.
The blood, lymph, kidneys and lungs are the avenues of discharge.
All of us have the problem with toxins from the intestines
cross contaminating the digestive and reproductive systems. No matter
our gender, we still end up with the need for cleansing.

Materials' Clean Up:
Dorcas: I have 2 sets (4) of working ginger compress towels. After the
first treatment, I hang one tee and 2 towels to dry until I do the second
treatment. After I have done my second compress,
I put my 2 tees and 4 towels to do a clear water rinse and then
spin it all and put the load in the dryer. No soap. You want to
maintain the vibration of the ginger in your towels and tee shirts for the rest of your
ginger compress days. I used to line dry my rinsed load, but they ended
up too stiff, so I opted for the dryer so they would be soft and fluffy.
I also recycle my cheesecloth or cloth sack. I just rinse it out so I have the same
piece for the next time. No soap.

Re your ginger pot, don't use soap or cleansers on it. Just let it be
stained with the ginger since it has only one purpose and that is to be
the ginger compress/daikon leaves
for the women when we do our hip bath tea
for the hip baths (daikon leaves for the hip bath...see blog/articles'
section for those instructions) pot and not to be used for cooking food. Just
rinse it out.

Healing Crisis Information:
As a result of doing the treatment mucus deposits are gradually
dissolved and toxins are evoked and unload into the bloodstream.
And what happens
overtly then will depend on many factors: The body may show signs of
detoxification or may show no overt signs of cleansing other than
passive weight loss, increased urination and bowel movement and some
fatigue.(Dorcas: It is my experience that if one commits to the entire process,
there will be overt signs...please continue reading).

More active signs of cleansing include nasal mucus discharge,
sore throat, coughing and sneezing, fever and flu-like symptoms,
temporary constipation and /or diarrhea, various aches and pains,
skin eruptions on various parts of the body, and headaches.

(Dorcas) Also you might notice some emotions rise up out of the blue,
such as sudden anger, or fear or feel weepy. Just be patient with
them...the feelings/emotions/attitudes will pass through as the toxins
that were held in the organs from events from the past with unresolved
issues are loosened. This is some post traumatic stress passing
through. Some old painful traumas may arise and need some talking
therapy to help you get some clarity and peace. Or perhaps you
will gain enough clarity yourself without the intervention. Or not...

Sometimes, discharges happen that feel very familiar to something that
happened at one time in your life. For instance, after my college level
Spanish, I went to Mexico to live for a while so I could really get the
flavor of the language and culture and while there I got sick and I have
not been the same since. From time to time during all my compress
application/hip bath years, some of the symptoms visit me again from
that incident.

I interpret from my understanding of the Healing Crisis built on
Hering's Law, that is to say, that "we heal from the head down, the
inside out and the order of the diseases that came upon us", that my
body's health and vibration are raised enough to take me to another
level of healing, energy and health. I have had pneumonia several times
in my youth and sometimes those symptoms visit me again and I remember
what they were like and I know I am being cleansed on a deeper level.

These discharges that begin to unload from our tissue, while very much
like old symptoms we have been through in years past, and perhaps the
symptoms can happen from something
can be as recent as a month ago before you started the routine, will
never be as severe as they were when they first happened and won't last
as long as they did when they first happened.

For instance, is one woman started the process. She and her husband
spent lots of time vacationing in Mexico and while there, she got a flu-like
sickness. She took the prescribed drugs. But by the time they returned,
she was still very fatigued and symptomatic. I had her collect her urine
so I could see if the kidneys would start unloading their most recent load
from the antibiotics.
The urine had 3 different layers of colors at the bottom of the container:
Pink, blue green and blue. So in her case, she unloaded the most recent
sickness, which I expected. (The order of the
illness that came upon us). From then on, it took the course of cyclical
discharges from illnesses she experienced throughout her life.

Each time you go through
some familiar discharge, it will be faster to pass through and less
discomforting. So be grateful for those discharges: They are
blessings in disguise.
Non Food items to avoid:

It is important that during your ginger compress and hip bath routine

to not use lotions on your skin, deodorants, shampoos that have ingredients

you cannot pronounce, including hair sprays, hair dryers, mousse's, perms, dyes, etc.

because the small intestine sends its effluvia up through the lungs and out the

little chimnies, the hair strands, to release the every day poisons when not on a

cleansing program on the one hand, and when in the planned cleansing mode,

these strands need to be clean from hair preparations/conditioners so the poisons

can exit easier. If you block the skin and hair, these poisons have to be handled

by the already over tired kidneys. These make the poisons of the body's wisdom to

discharge its waste be blocked. Also, with the use of chemicals as described,

they are taken up through the skin also, making another load for the kidneys and l

ymph to handle. After so long a time using these chemicals and eating the ones in

our foods, a special "dump site" is set aside inside the body to take up the poisons.

(Back to Kaare): If during the times of these discharges, they are are
accompanied with healthy appetite, normal sleep patterns, generally
okay vitality and no nausea, these signs indicate the healing process is
going well.

Contra-indications.
The ginger compress on the abdomen should not be done in the
following instances:
Pregnancy and Breast Feeding.
Abdominal inflammation, appendicitis and pneumonia.
On the brain, on infant babies, and in cases when a high fever is
running.
Overt cancers of the abdominal region, although they may safely be
done on cancers in other parts of the body.
(Dorcas) Best to hold off doing if havng a fever, irritation or
inflammation. For heart burn, irritable bowel syndrome and stomach
ulcers, some internal remedies might be more useful until these
symptoms pass. Consult with your health practioner.
Diarrhea might be better served by using a roasted salt pack
until it calms down: Diarrhea is a form of constipation.

Exercise:
There are additional aids to help breaking up the chronic mucus
stagnation. The first is to make sure we go for walks every day for at
least half to one hour. The act of walking serves to do to an 'internal
massage' on the intestines; it is helpful to use the stairs instead of the
elevator or escalator, to walk to the store rather than drive etc. And
the walking is most helpful if it is a relaxed stroll around your
neighborhood or in the park, where the simple enjoyment of the sights
and sounds we encounter is our aim rather than trying to do any
exercise. (Dorcas: Walking turns your new good food into muscle, bone and sinew.
Don't forget to breathe. By unloading your body from all the waste
from foods you were using that were not conducive to health, your circulation
will be faster because you will have more oxygen, while aiding the health of the
arteries and lowering cholesterol).

Massage:
Massaging the intestines while doing the compresses is very useful.
While you are
lying down with the ginger towel on your abdomen, (Dorcas) first bend
your knees so your abdominal tissue will be softened for more ease in
receiving the massaging; also you can go deeper with less discomfort.

(Back to Kaare):
Using the extended
index and forefinger of both hands together, press on the intestines
beginning at the ileo-cecal valve approximately two inches to the left of
the right hip bone, and using a push and release motion work your
fingers up the right side of your abdomen, across the abdomen to the
left, just above the navel, and then down the left side to just above the
pelvic bone, moving in a spiral motion further in from the path you
worked so that the massaging gradually works toward the center of the
abdomen. When you have completed one massage in this way, start
again from the beginning and work you way to the center of the
abdomen. Do this two or three times or so during the time you are
doing the compress. When you press down with your fingers go as deep
as you can, while trying to keep the abdominal muscles totally relaxed.

Dorcas: I am presenting a different order for the masseing of the
intestines than Kaare's. And follows are my reasons for why my order
for massage is different than his. Sometimes, beginning on the right
side can induce a nauseous feeling especially if one is plugged up at
the ileocecal valve, or if the ascending colon is bulging.
First, bend your knees so your abdominal tissue will be softened for
more ease in receiving the massaging; also you can go deeper with less
discomfort.

Many times there is a pile up at the ileocecal valve which is the valve
that is the bridge between the small intestine and the large intestine. Also,
because
of surgery to remove the appendix or long bouts with constipation. The valve
sometimes gets floppy and does not close like it should because
there is poor movement going uphill toward the hepatic flexure (right
rib cage) and over across the transverse and down the descending colon.

If you begin to empty out the left side first, which is the point of
exit, you will be following the order of the completing processes of the
waste matter. Use a spirallic movement as
you massage. With the left side encouraged to move what is there
first, by the masseing of the left side, all the time masseing downward to
the point of exit as far as the left side of the pube,
encouraging movement from across the transverse
and to the left and from the left rib cage area down the left, or
descending colon, you will be providing room for any matter/air that would
be moving out to move easier.

Then picking up at the right rib cage, across the transverse and down
the left again to the left pubic area. Then carefully masseing the
ascending colon in sections, for instance dividing from your right rib
cage down to the hip joint into 1/3rds, masse up to the right rib cage
and across the waistline and down the left side to the pube. Then go back
where you left off on the right side, massage upward to the rib cage, accoss the
waistline to the left rib cage;
and down to the top of the left pubic area. Finish by massaging from the top
of the pube on the right, up to the right rib cage, across the middle to the left rib cage
and down to the left pube: You will have made room for any slowed down matter/air
whatever condition it is in,
to be able to move easier in the order of the travel direction...

Sometimes you cannot go very deeply into the belly because it hurts.
Remember to have knees bent with your feet on your pad. At first you
may only be able to just softly do a spirallic massage on the surface.
Breathe while you are masseing. It will help oxygenate the area. Pay
attention more to your exhale, the inhale takes care of itself. When
you find you can go deeper, do on the exhale, then give a few circles on
the deeper level, still on the exhaleand while holding
your pressure, take a quick inhale, hold for 3,
then release and exhale quickly...

You might find Hashimoto's book translated by Herman Aihara entitled
"Sotai", which you can order from GOMF, Carl Ferre, useful for exercises
that help all body movements. Cornelia used to teach Sotai in Vega,
also at the Health Classic. The book cost $25 American + postage.

Back to Kaare:
Another aid is the following exercise. Stand straight, eyes looking
straight ahead, with your hands by your sides in the middle of a room
so you have plenty of space. Then move your hands, fingers extended,
upward and outward while raising yourself up on your toes and taking
a deep breath through your nose so that the inbreathe goes to your
lower abdomen. Hold the position momentarily, then slowly,
simultaneously bring your hands down past the hips and then forward
toward your front while bending down into a 'skiing' position,
tightening your abdominal and buttock muscles and as you bend while
exhaling slowly through your mouth, in order to complete the
exhalation by the time you end up in the 'skiing' position.

What I mean
by the 'skiing' position is you end up on your toes, bent at the waist
with your buttocks close your ankles, your arms extended in front of
you with fingers extended forward, as if you were just about to push off
down a slope if you were wearing skis. What you should feel as you go
through this motion is a gathering and concentration of the energy
forces in the pit of your abdomen. Do this exercise, on an empty
stomach, three to five times, two to three times a week while you are
doing the ginger compress regimen.
Note: (Dorcas)
Colonics or enemas, and bowel cleanses do unload waste old and current,
but do not increase circulation from the inside of the colon out to its tissue
which forms the walls of the intestines bringing a healthy blood supply to
the walls. By using the heat with the ginger with its deep acting energy
to "laser" so to speak through the stagnation, you are helping yourself to
unload from the built up putrefaction, but in addition, speed up the
circulation right into the walls of the intestines...that means a blood
source that was not as readily available. It means that by using a
rhythm of the timing, the body will respond with nature to cleanse and
rebuild on its schedule, not being forced, but respected, honored.
The forced methods ie the colonics and bowel cleanses can and do
unload waste, there is no doubt about it, but not in the same way as
the heat and the energy of the ginger and a respectful time frame as
the compresses do so the body can respond in a way that will not be
unbalancing to the organism.

I am very grateful to Kaare who continues to holler his lungs out about
the importance of bowel health with the use of the 2 miracles of ginger
compress and daikon hip bath for women. So many people bow out of
Macrobiotics
because after a couple of years on it, they say it doesn't work. Many
die unnecessarily because they are not encouraged to implement the
compresses to remove the stagnation and pick up the circulation of the
digestive-reproductive-eliminative processes. All the beautiful food, people
food consisting of whole grains, vegetables, seeds, some nuts, sea vegetables,
the correct use of salt, some fish, is
going in on top of years' of built-up waste and eventually choking on, and
it is about all we can expect without the cleansing.

If your house burned down and you went into rebuild, wouldn't you clean
up all the debri first? The construction company hauls in all the new

Instructions.
I gallon container(thick sides) of boiled water.
1/4 cup freshly grated unpeeled ginger root(does not have to be
organic) in a cloth bag.
2 cotton towels, folded to cover the abdomen from the sternum to the
pelvic bone and from one hip to the other.
1 dry towel.
2 wooden bowls about 10 inches diameter.

The bag of ginger is squeezed to get the ginger juice into the pot of
boiled water(do not boil the ginger), right after you have boiled the
water, and then the bag of ginger is placed in the hot water.
David's method is different from those in the books where he has two
of the wooden bowls you can buy at oriental stores, the bowls being the
ones made of interwoven strips of wood. These are about 8-10 inches in
diameter. What you do is place one of the folded towels between these
bowls and immerse it in the ginger water so that the towel gets heated
and because you are holding the towel between the bowls you do not
have to put your hands in the water.

Then you put the other dry towel try against the skin of the abdomen,
and, after immersing the two bowls with the other towel place between
them in the hot ginger water, you lift the bowls out of the water, and
squeeze them firmly together to squeeze the excess ginger water from
out of the towel. Then you take one bowl off the top of the ginger towel
and place it underneath the other bowel, and place the hot ginger towel
on top of the dry towel on the skin of the abdomen(you are doing the
compress lying back against some pillows against a couch or wall). Then
you cover that towel with another dry bath towel, also folded.

The heat and ginger chi penetrates through the dry towel into the
abdomen, and you can feel your skin heating up. After a few minutes,
as you feel the heat cooling down, you take off the top covering towel,
and flip over the two towels on the abdomen so that the towel that has
been recently soaked in the ginger water is now directly on the skin.
You then place the one that was originally on the skin between the two
bowls, while covering the one on your abdomen with the dry towel. You
then immerse the two bowls with the towel inserted between them in the
hot ginger water, take them out, squeeze the excess liquid out, and
lifting off the covering towel, place the hot ginger towel on top of the
one still on the skin, and cover them both with the covering towel.
Then, once you feel the towel against the skin cooling off, you flip the
towels over so that the recently heated towel is directly on the skin
and proceed to take the top towel and place it between the two bowls,
having placed the covering towel on top of the ginger towel on the
abdomen, and immerse the bowls in the hot ginger water, etc. You go
through this procedure for half an hour. If you have a gallon pot with
thick sides, then the ginger water should easily retain enough heat for
half an hour.
This method ensures that you have constant heat on the skin
throughout the course of the half hour treatment.
